Every element has to earn its place by reporting state or carrying data; nothing is there just to look nice. A near-monochrome graphite scale does the work, with one functional accent reserved for a single meaning, over a faint dot grid that shows the page was built to a system. Contrast is treated as a correctness property, and density is information done honestly rather than minimalism for taste.
