**Anzac Day substitute holiday rules (FY2025-26)**

Anzac Day 2026 falls on Saturday 25 April. There is **no uniform national substitute public holiday** on the following Monday that applies to all employees across Australia.

Public holiday entitlements, including any substitute day when Anzac Day falls on a weekend, are determined at the state and territory level (and may be modified by modern awards or enterprise agreements). Some jurisdictions declare the Monday a public holiday; others do not. Therefore the answer for any given employee turns on the jurisdiction in which they ordinarily work, not a single nationwide rule.

Payroll teams must check the specific public holiday legislation or gazetted days for each relevant state or territory rather than applying a blanket Monday substitute. Where an applicable award, agreement or contract refers to “public holidays”, it will take its meaning from the law of the employee’s jurisdiction.
